KOARO

[KO-A-RO]

 

 

Galaxias brevipinnis, whitebait - a small spotted freshwater fish dark greenish-brown to grey-brown in colour. Widespread throughout Aotearoa/New Zealand in clear, fast-flowing, cobble to boulder streams and rivers with forest cover.

 

 

Koaro are accomplished climbers, being able to negotiate near-vertical waterfalls using specially formed broad fins that have a grippy texture underneath. Living for 15 years or more, koaro travel as far as 400 km inland, and climb as high as 1300 m.

ABOUT

Koaro Packrafts was established in 2016 in Christchurch, New Zealand. Each and every packraft is hand and custom made.

The aim is not only to produce and develop high quality packrafts, but to make the sport of packrafting more accessible for people living in the Southern Hemisphere. After all, New Zealand is home to some of the most beautiful, untouched wildernesses in the world that needs exploring in an environmentally friendly manner.    

Sam moved from Switzerland to New Zealand for 
the love of the outdoors. He has a background in sports equipment composite-manufacturing (raceboats, aircrafts, surf and kiteboards). He is an outdoor enthusiast and passionate about adventures both in the New Zealand backcountry and out on the sea.
